  • Did you know?  North Dakota alone has the potential to produce 138,400 MW of electricity through wind, yet we currently have just 700 MW of installed wind power.  North Dakota could supply 1.2 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of annual electricity, which is 14,000 times the electricity consumption in the state.
  • Did you know? Imports of wind turbine parts to the United States went from $60 million worth in 2004 to $2.5 billion in 2008.  With that amount of money going to importing wind turbine parts there’s a lot of growth potential for American manufacturers.

Workshop Description: To Cross the Moon (2xTM) is an eco-friendly snowkiting expedition across North Dakota raising awareness about wind energy and climate change.  Snowkiting, a fast growing sport perfectly suited for North Dakota, uses a giant kite to pull someone on a snowboard or skis.  While our fearless adventurers braved the elements attempting to snowkite nearly 400 miles across North Dakota from the Canadian border to South Dakota; the 2XtM crew traveled to communities across the state using the buzz generated by the expedition to talk about climate change and wind energy.  Ironically enough, the 2007 expedition was cut short due to one of the warmest winters on record.  The 2008 expedition posed similar challenges, yet the adventurers were able to finish this first-of-its-kind trans-state kiting expedition in February of 2008.

     Room B 272 - Photo Petitioning

A picture is worth a thousand words… but how many signatures is it worth? The fact is that emails, phone calls, post cards are all tallied by our elected leaders pro and con on each issue they face. They keep track and they do matter, but some things count for more than others. Photo petitioning is an innovative, high-impact way to deliver your message to an elected leader, corporation or university official. Led by Pete Williams, outreach coordinator for National Wildlife Federation in Minot, North Dakota.
